Call2Recycle® - North America’s first and largest battery stewardship program – collects and recycles rechargeable batteries and cellphones at no cost in the United States and Canada. We recycle the collected batteries & cellphones into a variety of re-usable products and materials to eliminate hazardous waste from being landfilled. In recent years, we’ve expanded our program to include single-use battery recycling in Canada.
Since 1996, our program has diverted more than 75 million pounds (35 million kg) of rechargeable batteries from local landfills. In 2012, we collected more than 10 million pounds (4.5 million kg) of batteries–a record-breaking year, thanks to people like you and our network of 30,000 participating sites throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Call2Recycle is a leader in product stewardship, a policy of minimizing the environmental impact of products in the marketplace. We bring together consumers, businesses, non-profit groups, retailers, government agencies and the electronics industry to find ways to minimize the environmental impact of products at the end of their useful lives. Our program is made possible by battery and portable product manufacturers who care about their environmental impact. You can find the Call2Recycle Battery Seal on many of these industry stewards’ rechargeable batteries and products.
Our program meets or exceeds the most rigorous recycling standards in the world. We are Responsible Recycling (R2) certified, the first U.S. recycling program of its kind to achieve this certification.
We are operated by Call2Recycle, Inc., a 501(c)4 non-profit organization.
