Powering a Sustainable Future: High Energy Battery Recycling

More and more products – at home, work, and play – are being powered by batteries!  As the size of these products increases, the amount of energy needed to power them increases dramatically.  Many large products, from lawn mowers to snow blowers to leaf blowers, require the use of high energy batteries (i.e., batteries over 300 watt hours).  As these high energy batteries reach their end-of-life, having a recycling solution in place is fundamental to keeping people, property, and the environment safe.

Call2Recycle, Inc., in collaboration with the Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) and the Power Tool Institute (PTI), has launched a program to facilitate the safe collection and responsible recycling of high energy batteries used in these industry products.

The High Energy Battery Recycling program, made possible through voluntary funding by dedicated and safety-conscious outdoor power equipment and power tool manufacturers, will establish a network of trained collection sites for users to easily drop off their batteries recycling!

Currently, the program exclusively accepts high energy batteries (>300 watt hours) from outdoor power equipment and power tool brands that actively participate in the initiative.

Through participating manufacturers’ support, Call2Recycle is administering the High Energy Battery collection and recycling program, including providing recycling kits, transportation and logistics, safety materials, and consumer education.

Participating in a high energy battery recycling program is good for you, your customers, and the environment.

As a retailer of a participating brand, you can now register free-of-charge with Call2Recycle to have your location serve as a high energy battery collection site. Once enrolled, your location will be mapped out on Call2Recycle’s locator allowing consumers to easily and conveniently drop-off their high energy battery for recycling.

Call2Recycle will provide retailers with safe battery handling and preparation training, recycling kits for end-of-life and damaged/defective batteries, safety materials, and arrange for the collection, transportation, and recycling of high energy batteries.

Continuing the program’s commitment to safe, responsible, and compliant battery management, Call2Recycle offers considerations retailers should keep in mind when charging, storing, and transporting high energy batteries.
