National Battery Day – February 18th

National Battery Day on February 18 is meant to recognize the importance of batteries and the role they play in powering our lives. However, the safe and proper end-of-life management of batteries is critical—for people, property, and the environment.

We invite you to use the available National Battery Day materials and join Call2Recycle to help raise battery recycling awareness and inform your communities – customers, residents, employees – about the importance of safe, battery handling and recycling.

STATEMENT FROM LEO RAUDYS, CEO & PRESIDENT OF CALL2RECYCLE

“On National Battery Day, we want to inspire consumers and our environmental stewards to take safe action and learn about their options on how to develop responsible recycling habits. As younger generations elevate their voice on how to create a more sustainable environment, at Call2Recycle we are focusing our efforts on bringing battery recycling more directly to consumers while responsibly managing batteries at their end of life. With 26 years of experience as the nation’s first and largest consumer battery stewardship organization, we recognize that there is more work to do.

But thanks to consumers, industry stewards, and our collection partners, more than 8.4 million pounds of batteries were responsibly recycled through our program in the U.S. last year – making 2020 a milestone year.

While we all enjoy the freedom to go unplugged, with that comes greater responsibility. People, property, and the environment are put at risk when dead batteries are thrown away instead of recycled through proper channels. Fires and other safety incidents are pushing the recycling industry to its tipping point – it’s important to educate consumers on how to keep people and property safe not only on National Battery Day, but every day.”
