Founded in 1994, the Call2Recycle® program works on behalf of stakeholders to provide its battery and collection recycling program to consumers across the U.S. In 2019, over 7.5 million pounds of consumers batteries were collected and recycled, contributing to the more than 123 million pounds of consumer batteries collected since the program’s launch. But, these results wouldn’t be possible without the participation of consumers, retailers, and municipalities.
On National Battery Day, February 18, Call2Recycle released its annual analysis of state efforts for battery collection and recycling based on the amount of batteries each state collects through the Call2Recycle program compared with its population. This year, in a change from previous years, only batteries (by weight) collected directly from consumers to its collection sites were counted and collections from private locations such as manufacturers were removed. Vermont continued to lead the charge!
