The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation and the New Mexico Recycling Coalition Educate Albuquerque Residents on the Importance of Rechargeable Battery Recycling
ALBUQUERQUE, November 15, 2007 – In celebration of New Mexico Recycling Awareness Month and America Recycles Day, the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a non-profit, public service organization dedicated to recycling used rechargeable batteries and old cellphones, and the New Mexico Recycling Coalition, today formally launched an advertising awareness campaign, supported by the City of Albuquerque. The campaign, which began on November 5th, encourages consumers to recycle their used rechargeable batteries and old cellphones through RBRC’s Call2Recycle™ program at participating retail locations throughout the Albuquerque area. John Soladay, Sustainability Officer of the City of Albuquerque joined RBRC executives, representatives from the New Mexico Recycling Coalition and the City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Department to officially announce the initiative at a press conference at the Albuquerque Convention Center located at 401 2nd Street NW in the Southeast Exhibit Hall (Ground Level) at 10:30 A.M.
“The City of Albuquerque consistently works to preserve our natural resources by offering our businesses and residents the most efficient means to live a greener life,” said John Soladay, Sustainability Officer, City of Albuquerque. “Participating in the Call2Recycle program is an easy and effective way for the residents of Albuquerque to get involved not just now, but all year long.”
Since 2003, participating city agencies throughout the City of Albuquerque have successfully collected over 6,000 lbs. of rechargeable batteries through RBRC’s Call2Recycle program. RBRC and the New Mexico Recycling Coalition are working with the City of Albuquerque to implement this new advertising campaign, during New Mexico Recycling Awareness Month. The campaign runs until December 2, 2007 on local television and radio stations, and emphasizes the importance of rechargeable battery recycling while encouraging residents of Albuquerque to bring their used rechargeable batteries and old cellphones to participating locations throughout the Albuquerque area.
“We applaud the tremendous effort the City of Albuquerque and the New Mexico Recycling Coalition have already put into educating consumers about the importance of recycling rechargeable batteries and cellphones,” said Rich Lockhart, Manager of Marketing Programs for RBRC. “It is through partnerships like these that we can continue to provide a free and easy service, and make it convenient for consumers and businesses to make eco-decisions.”
