Battery Recycling on the Rise in A Down Economy

ATLANTA, February 11, 2010 – Call2Recycle®, the only free rechargeable battery and cellphone collection program in North America, today announced a 6.9 percent increase in overall collections, driven by major national retailers, municipalities and communities with a strong presence in the U.S. and Canada. Call2Recycle collected 6.1 million pounds (2.8 million kilograms) of rechargeable batteries in 2009.

New Yorkers Recycle 22 Tons of Rechargeable Batteries

ATLANTA, December 15, 2009 –Call2Recycle®, the only free rechargeable battery and cellphone collection program in North America, has announced a significant increase in rechargeable battery collections throughout New York City. So far this year, more than 44,000 pounds of rechargeable batteries have been collected and recycled through the Call2Recycle program in New York City, a 13 percent increase over last year. The amount of batteries turned in is equivalent to about 12 standard taxi cabs.

Battery Pack Rebuilders Recycles 7.5 Tons of Rechargeable Batteries

ATLANTA, November 10, 2009 – Call2Recycle®, the only free rechargeable battery and cellphone collection program in North America, today announced that Battery Pack Rebuilders LLC has recycled more than 7.5 tons (15,000 pounds) of rechargeable batteries since joining the Call2Recycle program in 2005. The amount of batteries collected is equivalent to the weight of about three mini-vans.
