Consumer Battery Recycling Awareness Increased During the Lead the Charge Campaign

NBD-Newsletter-Badge2This past February, our teams at Call2Recycle joined forces with North American battery collection partners to run a comprehensive and exciting consumer awareness campaign – the Lead the Charge on National Battery Day campaign. Thanks to the tremendous collaboration to promote the #NBD2016Recycle2Win sweepstakes tied to the campaign, consumers across the United States and Canada have become even more aware of the household battery recycling options available to them. The Lead the Charge on National Battery Day campaign could be used as a case study example of how consolidated outreach efforts by environmentally-conscious stakeholders can drive responsible behaviors among consumers.

With the help of our invested partners, including stewards, collection sites, government agencies and other supporters – who did a phenomenal job in getting the word out and letting their stakeholders know about their battery recycling options and the sweepstakes – our websites registered over 65% of web traffic increase during the campaign, with 91% of those being first-time visitors. Many of our partners used outstandingly creative outreach methods to spread the word, while other collection partners distributed posters, newsletters, and raised awareness through social media. Retail partners Best Buy, Lowe’s, RadioShack, Sears, Staples and The Home Depot, also showed their support on social media, helping the campaign reach over 31 million consumers during the campaign period. Call2Recycle battery collections in North America rose an average of 12% this February compared to last year’s.

Many consumers entered the sweepstakes and the US lucky winners included Abby Schneider, Jeremy Tuck, Linda Cooper, Misha Fredericks, Lori Smith, Kristen Lewandowski, John Printon and Melissa Breashears-Burks. For Canadian sweepstakes results, click here. Congratulations to all winners!
